The old order changeth!
When one looks into the future it soon becomes apparent that a crystal ball would be useful. Unfortunately, they are in short supply. At times of uncertainty, such as this, it can be tempting to run âwhat ifâ scenarios in our heads, such as âperhaps I should move into tech stocks and pharmaceutical companies - as surely these sectors will do wellâ or to pick out specific companies that appear likely to thrive in the future.
Viewing your portfolio through the right lens
One of the positive consequences of the current lockdown is that it does provide the opportunity to revisit a few of those old tasks, hobbies and pleasures that always seem to get put on the back burner in our busy lives. For some that might be picking up a new or re-reading a favourite book. Here is an example of the latter: in the early 2000s Nassim Nicholas Taleb published a wonderful book titled âFooled by Randomnessâ with the descriptive sub-title âThe hidden role of chance in life and in the marketsâ.
